DAY TWO
The opening race of Day 2 is the Ballymore Properties Novices' Hurdle (2pm) and, like so many other races at the Festival, it looks wide open.
The betting is led by the unbeaten Aigle D’Or from the Nicky Henderson yard at around 9/2 – he’s won his first two races pulling a cart and will doubtless be thereabouts, but I like the look of two other horses in the race.
Forpaddydeplasterer is trained by Thomas Cooper who could have a big Cheltenham – remember he has River Lane running in the Fred Winter Hurdle on the opening day.
This horse has had four starts and won three. His last start saw him win the Deloitte Hurdle at the expense of Cork All-Star. He is owned by a group of flamboyant Sunderland supporters, the Goat Racing Syndicate, who will light the place up if he wins.
I think if anybody is going to spoil the party then it could be the Alan King-trained Group Captain (11/2) who has won all three races over hurdles – the trainer thinks this is his banker bet of the Festival.
The former smart flat horse didn’t set the racing world alight in his first two jaunts over hurdles but in his last win at Exeter he looked a real star in the making, winning a listed hurdle event.
The Royal & Sun Alliance Chase is always tricky to work out and we have narrowed it down to just two.
We think Albertas Run (6/1) will take all the beating, his only defeat was at Aintree behind Tidal Bay. He has won well at Cheltenham and at Ascot and looks a worthy wager on Wednesday. The danger in the race could come from the Irish-trained French import Pomme Tiepy (12/1). She has done nothing wrong, winning four from four over here.
Leg Spinner (5/1) leads the markets for the Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle, but we like the look of Ringaroses who gets a 7/1 pricing. Our outside bet is the Nigel Twiston-Davies-trained Peacock at 25/1.
On to the big amateur race, the Peter O'Sullevan National Hunt Chase Challenge Cup, and Beat the Boys looks like the four miles will be right up his street; the 20/1 on offer looks too good to turn down.
The finale on Day 2 is the Weatherbys Champion Bumper and as usual the Irish have a strong hand this year.
I think Colm Murphy holds the aces with the unbeaten Zaarito the 7/2 jolly.
He is unbeaten in three races and he is one of my naps of the Festival.
Master Minded the one to beat in Chase
....but watch out for Fair Along from the back-to-form Hobbs yard
On to Wednesday and the big race of the day is the Queen Mother Champion Chase – another puzzling race to work out.
Master Minded is the favourite at the moment at around 11/4, but that could change come 3.15 next Wednesday.
Stablemate Twist Magic (3/1) and last year’s winner Voy Por Ustedes (7/2) are fighting it out for favouritism and it’s a hard call to make to see who goes off the jolly.
Master Minded easily disposed of Voy Por Ustedes in the Game Spirit Chase and his odds plummeted for the Champion Chase from 20/1 in to 3/1. But he is prone to the odd error and fell on his debut at Exeter. Word is he is flying at home. Ruby Walsh has picked him ahead of Twist Magic so that could be a tip within itself.
It looks a thrilling race but if the front three in the betting cut off each other’s noses then two outsiders might just run into a place.
The Irish-trained Nickname was pulled out of last year’s race on the day because the conditions didn’t suit him. Any sign of rain next week then back this mudlark who is 25/1 at the minute. If the heavens open, just watch that price tumble.
He jumps for fun and if he takes his place in the field expect a big run.
The Peter Hobbs yard have had a quiet season by their usual high standards but in recent days things have been picking up with a few winners on the board.
They have Fair Along entered and if they revert back to front-running tactics, this one might have a few of the big ones in trouble.
He was last seen finishing fourth to Kauto Star at Ascot after trying to force the pace there – the drop back to just two miles will be right up his street.
He is as big as 16/1 and that could be the value bet of what looks a muddling race.
They Bet: Master Minded 11/4, Twist Magic 3/1, Voy Por Ustedes 7/2, Tamarinbleu 15/2, Fair Along 16/1, My Way de Solzen 20/1, Mansony 25/1, Newmill 25/1, Nickname 25/1, Don’t Push It 33/1, Andreas 50/1, Another Promise 50/1, Justified 66/1, Schindlers Hunt 66/1.

Barry Geraghty rates Anglo Irish Bank Supreme Novices' Hurdle contender Cork All Star as his best chance of a Cheltenham victory.
The six-year-old, winner of last year's Champion Bumper, is a best-priced 10-1 for the Festival opener after finishing second in a Leopardstown Grade One last time.
Although Cork All Star has not won since making his hurdling debut last October, Geraghty retains faith in the Jessica Harrington-trained runner.
'The horse I'm looking forward to most of all would be Cork All Star in the opener. If he were to return to his best form he would have a good chance,' said the rider.
'He would have won the Royal Bond at Fairyhouse in December if it were not for a mistake at the last.
'I thought he would win his next two runs but he just disappointed a little bit, I thought he was better than that.
'I would say his Royal Bond run was the best of the year and a return to that form would be what I'm hoping for.
'He won well (in last year's bumper). He felt good on the day and he felt good at Fairyhouse back in December.
'He's won twice at Cheltenham and you would be hopeful.'
Cork All Star kicks off a bumper week for Geraghty, who boasts a sizeable book of likely rides.
Victor Dartnall has snapped up his services for Lodge Lane in the Albert Bartlett Novices' Hurdle over three miles on Friday.
The seven-year-old trades at around the 6-1 mark in a race that has Carruthers, who Lodge Lane beat earlier in the season, as favourite.
'He should have a shout. The form's worked out with Carruthers. He looks a nice horse,' said Geraghty.
'He seems to stay well and jump well - I think he will have a good chance. He looks a nice horse.'
Geraghty also rides Larkwing, who is as low as 14-1 for the Vincent O'Brien County Hurdle following his third in Grade Two company last time.
'He won in Navan and ran a good race behind Catch Me in Gowran. He got raised 10lb for that which wouldn't be ideal but he would have a chance,' the rider told At The Races.
Geraghty will also ride the Tom Taaffe-trained Finger Onthe Pulse during the week with Kazal in the Ladbrokes World Hurdle and Lounaos in the David Nicholson Mares Only Hurdle.
'Finger Onthe Pulse is between the Jewson and the SunAlliance and he would be a good ride,' he added.
'I'm looking forward to Kazal, he's an improving horse, and Lounaos. If she returns to her form of last year would have a good chance.
'She had a long season (last year) and had been on the Flat all autumn, then over hurdles so she was probably a bit over the top at Cheltenham.
'She has won this year but hasn't really improved the way we thought she might of but on her best form she would have a chance.'
Western Point first race today makes the trip across the Irish Sea - BIG chance
JIMBOB
How'd you go at Dundalk Jimbob? I backed Knowing Wink in the first but he never got into the race at all. The well backed fav was beat too though.
According to the Racing Post Osana is all the rage for the Champion Hurdle and his price has been cut. It is sure to be popular on the day as Pricewise has tipped it to win too and thinks that Sizing Europe will need to improve again to beat him after their dual at Cheltenham earlier.
The going for tomorrow looks like it will be on the soft side of good.........
Cheltenham racecourse has survived the forecast storms so far, with clerk of the course Simon Claisse expecting only a little more rain before the start of the Festival.
Strong wind and heavy rain were forecast over the weekend but Prestbury Park has avoided the worst of the weather and it's all systems go for the four-day racing bonanza.
"It hasn't been so bad here," said Claisse. "We had wins up to 50mph last night and they could have been 60 or 70mph so I think we got away quite lightly.
"We've had 10mm of rain, most of it came in the early hours of this morning. I've just changed the going on the Old Course which will be used on Tuesday and Wednesday to Good-Good to Soft in places, the Cross Country course remains Good and the New Course for Thursday and Friday is Good to Soft-Good in places.
"We expect to get a little more rain later today and a little more tomorrow morning."
OSANA????????? will be a hard race.agus a vic is the big irish hope for the meeting i think.
put your name on your posts yid army.
told you to stay away from blackpool and you would not listen.

Cheltenham Festival officials say the safety of the public is paramount as storms threaten final preparations for jump racing's premier meeting.
Gales and heavy rain are forecast for Monday and into Tuesday's first day.
Clerk of the course Simon Claisse said: "With temporary structures for 15,000 people, we just want to make sure those are all safe.
"We are making sure that anything that doesn't need to be set up and might blow away gets left until Tuesday."
Claisse added: "There are Met Office warnings out for a gale starting Monday and lasting through to early on Tuesday.
"There may be wind speeds up to 50 or 60mph and possibly somewhere between half an inch and an inch of rain.
I backed Blackpool too and they were the only team that beat me. I had them with Carlisle, Hartlepool, Peterboro and West Brom! Blackpool were 2-1 with 15mins to play!!
I fancy STERNENZELT in the second at Stratford today.
Yes Yid Army put your name on your posts.
JR
well if you had of read the blog last week i tried to put all off blackpool.they are not playing well at present

Beef Or Salmon will run off a 3lb lower mark in Monday week's Powers Whiskey Irish Grand National at Fairyhouse.
Confirming the decision to drop the 12-year-old winner of ten Grade 1 races for the Easter Monday €250,000 showpiece, senior National Hunt Handicapper Noel O'Brien said on Monday: 'I've dropped top-weight Beef Or Salmon to a mark of 160 from 163 for this race and from the 87 initial entries, 40 of those are now in the handicap proper with eight other horses weighted above 11 stone, including Snowy Morning, One Cool Cookie, Forget The Past, Rule Supreme and Slim Pickings".
interesting tips there for first day yid.you have studdied the form i see
micky ginge
I've fancied most of them for a few weeks now so I am sticking by them.
I just hope there's not too much rain between now and the first race tomorrow.

Sorry folks had a death in the family so my mind is on other stuff at the moment.
Tipster of the day has to be Micky Ginge! excellent piece of punting big lad.. drinks on you in the Whitefort on Friday!
Also Dolly Dev who had his free £25bet on Katchit 10/1.
keep posting folks - I think Yid Army put Crack Away Jack up in a race a few weeks back.
Covered our loses with Tidal Bay and Katchit so not a bad first day!
Ginger
Great picking. I was gutted when Crack Away Jack won because I did back him last time out at Sandown and all day I was looking at him but I just felt that yesterday was a harder race so I went against him!!
By the way Ginger, you said Osana didn't run good enough!!?? You must have been watching a different race than me mate!!
thanks lads.must admit shit myself watching it.thats the second year in a row i have touched for a treble there.would have loved to meet up in the whitefort on friday to buy yidarmy a drink but heading that night for the derby man u game.
micky ginge
Ginger
Nice thought but I am T total mate!!
Have £200 of your winnings on Ronaldo to score first for Man U!!!
gainst derby,it would be a fool to back anyone to score first there.even van der sarr would be in with a chance of scoring there!!!i'm considering having a chunk of my winnings on agus a vic on friday!its getting rave reviews

2 horses that I will be backing today....
LADY PILOT in the 1st at Huntingdon
DUNDRIDGE NATIVE in the 3rd at the same meeting
Also, Spurs at 15/8 tonight is very tempting. It will be very tough against an in-form PSV side who haven't had to play a game since last Thursday.
Juande Ramos is a tactical master and I reckon he has what it takes to encourage our squad to turn this game round. Remember, if Spurs score first the tie is level and the pressure will be on PSV to stop us from scoring another away goal!!!
yid...if is a small word with a big emaning.was having a look at lady pilot...interseting!
fancy p.s.v to win 2-1
micky ginge
Ginger
Now do you really fancy PSV or are you just saying that to get at me??
I honestly fancy Spurs to get through to the next round, whether they win the match over 90mins or not though I'm not sure. McGranaghans are offering 13/8 for Spurs to go through and I think that is the bet to be on!!
P.S 6/1 Lady Pilot and 4/1 Dundridge Native!!
11/8 in mcgranaghans 10/11 everton.
two home teams
hard to turn down and the yak to score first for everton
Andy Johnson has hit a wee bit of form for the toffee's too but Tim Cahill or Jolean Lescott are always the value bets for an Everton first goalscorer!
Ginger
LADY PILOT wins at 15/2!! Hope you were on.
This DUNDRIDGE NATIVES last three form figures read UUU so he was a dodgy bet but I have him in a £10 double with Lady Pilot. Pity I took 6/1 about Lady Pilot but a wins a win.
DUNDRIDGE NATIVE stuffed!!!
sorry yid just back into the house, was collecting yesterdays winnings.
had £50 on lady pilot out of my winnings.i'm flying here.only bet i did all day!!
