None of our local punters could match the 50p eight timer that netted an English punter a cool million last Friday, but we do have some lovely bets to mention this week.
We start with Ulsterbus driver Gerard Hackett who touched with the bet of the week. Keen punter Gerard placed a £5 each-way treble on Saturday. It was originally a quad but we will come to that later.
Gerard is a stickler for early prices, which we at the PG call a gamble within a gamble. He took all early screen prices on – and the decision paid off in spades.
His first selection, Comply Or Die, won the Eider Chase at Newcastle at 11/1 to give the bet a dream start.
Gerard had to wait an hour for his next selection to run. Rayshan was well backed in to 13/2 from 12s and won with a bit in hand.
What a sweat! Gerard already had £780 riding on his last selection and that selection was also the subject of a gamble – our sweating punter had sixes and the horse was now as low as 7/2.
The second favourite – King of Dixie, a 9/2 shot – was withdrawn at the start but our punter wasn’t bothered as he was on the sweat of a lifetime. His well-backed horse, Atlantic Story, was given a terrific ride by Jamie Spencer to win with a bit in hand.
Our punter was in punting heaven – he thought he had won £5,619.38 after a quick count by his mates. But that Rule 4 was at the back of his mind and when he went to collect his windfall he was told the bad news – he had £4,664.25 off the docket; he had just lost a fifth of the bet. It took a wee bit of the gloss off it but, still, Gerard was delighted with the bet.
Now back to the start and Gerard had originally wanted to do a quad but saw the price of his fourth selection and promptly left it out.
Riverside Theatre (5/4) was the horse and it won at the last at Kempton at 5/4 – if only...
Joe Maguire was checking the scores coming in on Saturday on Sky Sports and was left devastated after Crystal Palace beat him out of £1,500. But despair turned to joy when he checked the Irish League scores. He lifted close to £600 off his bet thanks to that late, late Donegal Celtic goal at home to Linfield that even had the Reds fans cheering.
Another Andersonstown punter hit Sean Grahams for over two and a half grand.
The punter placed 3 x £2 doubles and a £4 treble.
The bet was up in the space of 20 minutes – Gungadu got the ball rolling, winning the Racing Post Chase at 4/1. The ride of the weekend from Sean Quinlan got Stop The Show up to win at 8/1.
The sweat was on and Comply or Die, who did our bus driver a favour, didn’t let him down, winning at 11/1.
The bet paid £2,586 – a great 20 minutes work by anybody’s reckoning.
Just room for one more and this one’s a kind of good and bad luck story.
A North Belfast punter placed a 50p Lucky 31 with Grahams – a bet that costs £15.50.
His first horse, Where’s Johnny, got the ball rolling, winning at 7/2, and 40 minutes later Josear won at 8/1. When Mondial Jack at 7/1 won the 4pm at Hereford our punter had a big sweat on his hands.
It got better when Our Jim won at 5/1 (7/2 SP) to give him an almighty sweat on his last selection.
That selection, Spud 11/4, could only manage fifth place to beat our punter out of an absolute fortune.
He still picked up £1,991.80 for his troubles – that’ll ease the pain.
We at last hit a winning nap yesterday when Lupanar won at 10/11 - we followed up withe a double when Topflight Wildbird won at 9/2 a 10/1 double was almost a 88/1 treble, whe Geography 15/2 loomed up at the last only to make a bad error that cost him the race. It would have been a free Cheltenham!!
Thursday selections
NAP: Hibiki 2.10 Ludlow (will not be a big price but boost course and distance win) Isaaf 33/1 live outsider
Double: Lindsay 3.50 (good second to to Mokum last time and he has since franked the form)
Treble: Donatessa 5.30 Taunton ( good conditional jock on board and a wee bit of money for it as well)

Todays selections.........NAP - CHRYSANDER 2.20 @ LudlowThis looks a good race and should come down to a dual between my fancy and Hibiki. Both are very well bred horses but Chrysander seemed to be the better of the two on the flat. They have both made good starts to their jumps careers but I am confident of Chrysander giving 9lbd to Hibiki.NB - THISTLECRAFT 3.50 @ LudlowThis good stayer can defy top weight with a good 3lb claimer on board.TREBLE - FOXSPUR 3.20 @ LudlowIn good form and will appreciate the quicker going today. Also, watch out for DEFINITELY IT in the NHF race at 5.20 @ Ludlow. Ran a good race last time out and can run a big race today at a nice price.

pays 9/1 quad - which one loses?
Del Boy
I've opted for ANGEL CABRERA @ 33's for the Honda Classic and JUSTIN ROSE looks a good price @ 33's for the US Masters (although I may do him each-way with the form Tiger is in)
Justin Leonard has a good chance but I just can't stand the fella. Ever since his antics in the Ryder Cup a few years back I just went off him.
Eastwoods win quad

Three horses the same as McGranaghans - one will lose - which one???
Gerard
I agree with you about these win yankee's that bookies pick. Out of the 4 horses you have posted at least one of them will lose but the first one, BLAEBERRY, won't!!!
Yid,you follow your golf then or play?
I do a wee article for the 4 golf majors for puntersguide so read the article in a few weeks for my naps for the u.s Masters/cannot give any secrets out or you will not but the paper and Gerard might fall out with me,nut you are right in one thing...if woods is playing make sure you back someone else each way!
Del Boy
Super Nick the dodgy one?
Del Boy,your reputation is on the line here as a golf pundit.Must admit i know nothing about the game apart from some black man keeps stealing trophies and money.
will do my first ever golf bet at lunchtime and take your naps for a bit of interest

I play and follow the golf but I only have a bet on the rare occassion.
I had £10 on Harrington for the Open last year at 25's. I think Sergio threw that one away!!
I also had £50 on Tiger @ 5/2 when he won a St. Andrews a few years back, I think it was his first win since his dad died.
And also, I had £10 on Vijay Singh when he won a 3 way play off in the US Masters.
All in all I've been quite lucky with my golf bets.
well yid army if you had have read my article last year for the u.s masters i tipped justin rose at 100/1 before he started playing well for an each way bet...second he finished but gave us a run for our money and paid 25/1 for second so stay tuned for the u.s master naps.
Even Gerard is threatening to take it up because he says it looks easy every time he watches the tiger!!
Del Boy
It's a great sport to play and watch. It's not easy by any means but Tiger does make it look as though he was born holding a driver!!
I play off 18 in our wee society which is about to start up again at the end of March. First outing is at Spa. I'm playing in a charity 4 ball too at Rockmount (one of my fav courses) on the 12th May.
Spa not a bad course, first hole especially and yes Rockmount is one of everyones favourites, always in top nick but a bit short!!get yourself to portrush or kirkistown and you will find out your real handicap!
18 in society normally means about handicap of 24 in a club but if you play well on portrush or kirkistown you will play well anywhere.
Del Boy
i'm good at it on the playstation
micky ginge
Del Boy
Unless I win the lottery I'll not be playing Portrush too soon!
I like Rockmount, Hilton Templepatrick, Donaghadee, Maserene, Ballyclare, Kilymoon and our weekend away last year took us to Castle Hume in Enniskillen.
That's the benefit of playing in a socirty, you get to play a lot of different courses.
yid army, ever hear of a book called open fairways?
it sells for £70.Nearly every course in Ireland is in it with a voucher for 4 people to play for the price of 2.Once you have used it twice the book pays for itself.
Get yourself to Malone in the summer nights. You get on for a tenner after 5 o clock.hard to beat!
Del Boy.
anyone know what GOLF stands for

Yes, a few of the mates have them books. We used them a few times, mostly Masarene because the guy normally lets you on without stamping the card.
I've been a visitor to Malone many's a summer night. Although them hills kill me!!
Evander Holyfield (45) has just announced that he is ready to fight Mike Tyson (41) again. He said he has received an offer from Tyson's camp about a fight and he said that if the price is right (surprise, surprise) then he is willing to accept.
I for one would subscribe to watch this fight for the simple reason that it would be funnier than watching an episode of Only Fools and Horses! Holyfield is over the hill, as is Tyson, but Tyson is also a complete lunatic and will probably have a go at Holyfields other ear! I've probably seen better fights outside the Devenish than these two.
Tyson is the greatest boxer I have ever seen in my lifetime but this re-match will be a complete farce!
yid army....
who is the only boxer to have ever shit in the ring?

I take it this isn't a question from A Question of Sport??
I can feel a really bad joke coming on here!!
Hit me with it.

HIBIKI just held on in the 2.20 but I must say that Paul Maloney will definitely not be winning any prizes for ride of the season. In fact, it almost looked like a schooling session to me!!
HIBIKI though looks a decent recruit but I would be very surprised if he's not stepped up to 2m 2f or even 2m 4f next time as he had to be niggled a long for a few strides a long way from home after being slightly outpaced.
Gerard,
BLAEBERRY was a drifter in the market, 4-7 from 4-9, but still did the business.
Both Eastwoods and McG's specials still going but there's bound to be one bad apple in there!!
Hope so! our my reputation is shot to bits yet again.. They haven't touched all week!
Gerard,
McG's special has already bit the dust. NOBODY TELLS ME finished @ Evens. The horse that beat it was 6/5 so I don't see how they can stick Nobody Tells Me in a special bet!!!
Only a foolish punter would have backed that special.
Eastwoods still going!!
Gerard,
SUPER NICK beat!!
Both specials bite the dust!!
a nice bet for the weekend
Sunderland 13/10
Blackburn 7/4
Watford 8/5
Leeds 8/5
Spurs 1/1
£10 gets you around £900 odd.
going for 3 footie bets in a row
joe t. north belfast
Sunderland and Blackburn look 2 bankers for the weekend.
I wouldn't touch my beloved Spurs v Brum. It's a game we should win but Birmingham are tough at home, as Arsenal found out last week, and Spurs will more than likely rest a few of their players i.e Berba, Jenas, King etc. for their European game next Thursday v PSV.
Between us yid we got it right -
you called Blaeberry to win I said Super Nick was the dodgy one
Good stuff!
come on yid.spurs are on a high and if you stop james mcfadden they will roll over.cannot believe i am trying to convince a spurs man to back spurs.
i think the bet is worth a £10 flutter even for you
Joey t
i EXPECT sPURS TO WIN BUT WOULDN'T PUT THEM IN MY BET, HARD MATCH!!
I've got a maximum bet lined up for Saturday!! I've been waiting on this horse for a few weeks now. It's been entered in all sorts of races the past few Saturday's and Sunday's but has always been pulled out before the final declarations.
It runs at Newbury on Saturday!!
MORE INFO TOMORROW!!
P.S This is not a tip, just a fancy of my own. I've been following the horse all season and have made a tidy profit on it!!
