Tipsy punter has the last laugh

Try and picture this scene in your head.
Friday night in a local bar around 8.30, there are five guys huddled round a table with Racing Posts and form guides littered round them. They have been there since they knocked off work and have been punting and drinking for quite a while. Their punting day is reaching its end with just one race to come from Wolverhampton.
One of the party is a little the worse for wear and the rest of the lads decide to play a practical joke on him. “We just received a tip for Hope Everlasting in the 8.44 at Steepledowns,” they tell him.
A tip at the virtual racing I hear you say? Yes, our poor, tipsy punter fell for it hook, line and sinker. One of his mates filled the docket out for him and our tanked-up punter rushed next door to place his bet.
He placed £10 each-way on the horse and came back to the bar to watch the race – that’s how far gone the guy was. No, it’s not on TV, fella, his mates told him, it’s a virtual race, you can only watch it in the bookies. At that stage the penny dropped.
He called his so-called mates all the names under the sun and left abruptly – you can’t blame the poor guy. He called into the bookies anyhow to check out the bogus tip and had to look twice. Hope Everlasting had just won. He blinked at the price. No way, he thought – the horse had won at 100/1!
He returned to bar with a wad of notes, £1,270 to be precise, and his mates were dumbstruck.
Their practical joke had just won their mate over a grand and suddenly nobody was laughing any more. Except for one person, of course.

Weekend Soccer Predictions
What a bad lot Leicester are – we were waiting on them for our quad last week after Brechin 17/10, Preston 6/5, and Huddersfield 6/5 all did the business for us last Saturday afternoon.
The Foxes were outfoxed and outplayed by a Plymouth team who took all points to leave us a wee bit gutted.
As usual we will dust ourselves down and try to bounce back this weekend.
We are leaving the match of the weekend between Man Utd and Arsenal well alone after some Reds fans gave off that this column is anti-Man Utd, a claim that we reject. Go on the Gunners!
The weekend matches are dominated by the FA Cup matches. We start with our weekend banker bet and we have opted for MIDDLESBORO (5/4) who take on bookies’ team Sheffield Utd at Bramall Lane.
Sheffield Utd beat Bolton in the last round but are currently struggling in the Championship and a defeat against his old club could cost Bryan Robson his job.
Boro have been in good form of late and have a striker in Jeremie Aliadiere (above right) who at last has found the net after his transfer from Arsenal. His goals have won Middlesboro their last two games and we expect that run to continue on Sunday with the French striker priced at a tasty 11/2 for the first goal.
WEST BROM 11/8 can hopefully get the ball rolling by beating managerless Coventry on Saturday.
CHELTENHAM 11/10 are starting to string a few wins together at home and should beat Hartlepool.
NORTHAMPTON 1/1 are another team in-form and we are taking them to beat strugglers Gillingham.
The quad pays £112 for a fiver
XXX : Cardiff v Wolves, Inverness v Dundee Utd, Doncaster v Leeds, all at priced at 11/5
(remember those doubles and trebles)
EURO QUAD: Valencia 6/4, Villareal 5/6, Lazio 1/1, Marseille 11/0 (all Euro prices PP)

Punt of the Day
Bayern Munich (-1) 1/1

Horsewatch Thursday:
Crescent Island (2.50 Chepstow) NAP
Nadover ( 3.25 Chepstow) Double
Dickie Lewis (3.40 Kelso) treble

I HEAR A SYMPHONY (1.50 Chepstow)makes his hurdles debut and his debut for the Hobbs yard after being purchased from Ireland. He won a INHF race comfortably last time out and put in a good performance behind Logans Run before that. I think he will be very hard to beat today.

My NAP today is MA YAHAB in the 2.20 at Chepstow. He was a 3 lengths 3rd to An Accordian in a hot race an Donny and although that was off a light weight the same 7lb claimer rides today which means he is getting weight off all but 1 of his rivals.

My NB is KALCA MOME in the 3.25 at Chepstow. His first run of this season saw him beating Voy Por Ustedes at Cheltenham and he has continued to perform credibally in hot company. The extra 3 furlongs today should be right up his street.

I would take Gerards advice and put all your money together and have it all on Bayern Munich -1 tonight. They're playing Aberdeen which is the equivalent of Man Utd playing DC!!
If you can all get £100 between yourselves you will double your money so you will be heading to Caffrey's tomorrow with £200!! You can't lose!!

Fancy Mick De Kock in the last two races at Ned Al Sheba
Bennie Blue and Honour Devil in the big one!

Mike De Kock is having a great spell in Dubai. Johnny Murtagh is riding a lot for him.

Another good bet tonight is ROBBIE KEANE to score the first goal for Spurs. I would imagine you would get around 9/2 for him.

Watch out for JAFARU in the first at Chepstow good flat form and 14-1 on offer - Gerarld Butler is a shrewd trainer

Spurs are playing a Slavia Prague side that haven't played a match since the start of December!! They are currently coming to the end of their winter break.
I can see Spurs anihalating this side.

FIRST GOALSCORER: Robbie Keane
SPURS TO WIN: 3-0

MA YAHAB was an impressive winner of the 2.20 at Chepstow in my opinion. He never travelled in the race at all and was being niggled at in the rear practically the whole way round. Coming to 2 out he was still around 6 or 7 lengths down but he reduced that to about 2 lengths approaching the last. The horse in front pinged it ann Ma Yahab stumbled on landing so the margin was increased to about 3 or 4 lengths but he knuckled down on the long Chepstow run in to score an impressive win.

Well, your £72 should turn into £144 tomorrow. Bayern Munich need to beat Aberdeen by at least 2 clear goals i.e. 2-0, 3-1 etc.

P.S My horse NAP won @ 5/4, if you had have had your £72 on that you would already be collecting £162!!!!

Best of luck!

I watched (and backed) your 3rd tip DICKIE LEWIS' race. He made all and jumped almost every fence perfectly. Timmy Murphy's horse Bene Lad was right upsides though travelling well when he unseated about 3 out which left our horse about 12 clear. But after jumping 2 out and walking over the last he began going up and down on the spot and the 1 1/2f Kelso run in gave all the punters a real fright as a horse started to sprout wings from well off the pace but DICKIE held on for a gutsy win!!

Right here's my horse tips for today, todays tips are dedicated to the royal girls who will be cold turkeying over the weekend because they can't get a drink!!

My NAP today is CRACK AWAY JACK in the 2.05 at Sandown. From the in-form Emma Lavelle yard he ran well to finish 3rd in a hot Ascot race last time ridden by Ruby Walsh. He is a hold up horse and he has the best hold up jockey on board today, Timmy Murphy.

My NB is PUNCHESTOWNS in the 3.45 at Sandown. A first time out for the red hot Henderson-Fitzgerald partnership this French import is sure to have been well schooled and should take all the beating.

Also, KAUTO STAR runs at Ascot tomorrow and bar any incidents he looks home and hosed but I reckon VODKA BLEU at around 25/1 is great each-way value.

My football quad for the weekend is....

SOUTHAMPTON 11/8 away to Bristol R

CHARLTON 6/4 at home to league leaders Watford

IPSWICH 8/11 at home to Blackpool. Ipswich's home form is fantastic.

DONCASTER 13/10 at home to Leeds. I think Leeds are gonna start sliding back down League 1.

Man Utd will play a stronger team than Arsenal who will probably play their kids.. with AC Milan coming up - I would leave this match alone Charlie as you betting with the heart, not your head!

ARSENAL TEAM NEWS FOLKS
arsenal look stronger!
Arsenal defenders Kolo Toure and Emmanuel Eboue are in the squad for Saturday's FA Cup fifth round clash at Manchester United after returning from the African Nations Cup.
But otherwise the Gunners have lost three more bodies with Gael Clichy (hamstring) and Bacary Sagna (personal reasons) likely to miss out and Philippe Senderos (thigh/knee) a doubt.
England striker Theo Walcott, a late withdrawal from the 2-0 victory over Blackburn because of a thigh problem, remains unavailable.

Lehmann, Fabianski, Senderos, Hleb, Fabregas, Flamini, Adebayor, Eduardo, Bendtner, Traore, Song, J Hoyte, Gilberto, Gilbert, Randall, G Hoyte, Lansbury.

Anonymous said...

Either way Arsenal will only use it as an excuse if they rest a few players. The same way when we trounced them 5-1.

I wonder what odds you'll get for Adebayor starting a fight with Fabregas?? Probably about 4/5 I reckon!!

Or what odds will you get for Arsene (I only see what I want to see) Wenger admitting that they were beaten fair and square the next time they are beat this season. Probably about 500/1 for that!!

Anonymous said...

he will start j.p for sure.a victory tomorrow would be a great boost for the rest of their season.

arsenal did play their kids against the mighty spurs and are 31 points ahead of you in the league, still in the f.a cup and the champions league.

Del Boy

We were all over you at the Emirates in both the CC and the League. I don't fall for this kids nonsense, the team Arsenal played against us at WHL in the CC wouldn't have had a much younger average age than our own. We played them off the park and the Adebayor and Cesc try to come on to save the day only for Jenas to put Cesc in his pocket and Adebayor trying to knock his team mate out.
The funny thing was that Wenger came out the next day and said that "Arsenal were the better team and were unlucky". He is an embarrassment. I admit he is a quality manager but he see's everything through his red an white tinted glasses and it's annoying.

Anonymous said...

Yid Army, you were not all over me as i am a Utd man but the mighty tottenham fans think they are world beaters because they got a draw against man u and beat arsenal reserves.

take a look at the league table yid and weep.

We played you's off the park too.

Of course we're not world beaters but it's easy for the plastic glory hunter fans of Man U, Arsenal, Liverpool and Chelsea to have a go at us. I've supported Spurs all my life through thick and thin.
I wonder what attracted you to Man Utd??? It wasn't the fact that they were one of the most successful teams was it????

Anonymous said...

no,supported them for over 30 years Yid.
what attracted you to spurs.was it all their trophies and premier league titles... i think not.
As i said Yid look at the league table,it does not lie.The might tottenham are in the bottom half, hows that?

No, my father was and his family were Spurs fans all their lives so basically I was born a Spurs fan. I've only been to WHL 5 times but I've been to many away matches. Never been to Old Trafford though because I like to stand up the odd time when I watch a match!! Even your own manager (and one of your best ever players in Roy Keane) criticised the atmosphere at your ground.
That's the difference, we have real, loyal, passionate fans whereas Man Utd are full of plastic glory hunters.

Enjoy the prawn sandwiches!!

I've always been a Spurs fan and anyone who knows me knows that I am.

Celtic play in the CL every season because they play in a Mickey Mouse league. If Bolton were in the SPL they would be playing CL football season in season out.

The difference with me is that even if Spurs were relegated to League 2 I would still support them whereas you plastic fans would probably start supporting Barcelona or Real Madrid if your team got relegated.

Exactly the type of fans Roy Keane and SAF talked about!!!

Anonymous said...

its good i must say but surely yid should be banned for talking nonsense. what right does a spurs fan have to try and put down the two best teams in the country.

answer none.

ban all yids back to the colony

i dont like cricket,i love it

Anonymous said...

I didn't put down the two best teams in the country. I merely stated that we played both of them off the park which is fact, but typically you can't accept that a team inferior to you did this.

Is this blog about opinions and debates or is it if your anti Man U or Arsenal then you can't comment???

Stop whinging boys!!

Anonymous said...

YID admit you support a bottom half of the table team and let the big boys fight it out amongst themselves.
Spurs are a selling club, they always let theeir best players go.Berbatov will be away in the summer also just like sherringham, ruddock, scales, carrick when they left for bigger and better teams

No, you see that's where your limited football knowledge shows and proves that you are a glory hunter!
You don't need to play in the CL to be a decent team. Are you saying that teams like Spurs, Villa, Blackburn, Everton, Portsmouth etc aren't decent teams?? Didn't that NOT SO DECENT team Man City spoil your party last week??

yid army villa, everton, portsmouth, blackburn are all half decent teams,as the other bloggers are saying and i have to agree with them, thats why they are where they are in the league.Spurs are in the bottom half because they deserve to be.a few decent results in the last few weeks proves nothing.read the league table and wake up and smell the coffee.

wee terry the toffee supporter.

Anonymous said...

McCaff

Yeah, I noticed you keep repeating yourself. That basically means you can't think of anything constructive to say.

You're right, the table doesn't lie which is why Man U are 2nd and Arsenal are top!

Anonymous said...

Terry

We had a poor start to our season and with problems inside our club involving our previous manager and our directors we fell well behind. Juande Ramos is turning it round slowly but surely. We can't judge him until next season but from what I've seen he is a top manager who knows what he is doing. Of course Spurs deserve to be were they are at the minute because their early results weren't good enough, but we are not a bottom half of the league table. The season doesn't end for another 3 months!
I will bet you any money you want that we will not finish in the bottom half this season.

Come on glory hunters, put your money were your mouths are!!

Don't be stupid! We're 7 places and 15 points below you you plank. That's like asking me to bet DC to win the Irish League.

Why won't you put your money were your mouth is and have the bet I mentioned?? You were the one that said Spurs are a bottom half of the table team so why won't you put the money down on it??

Yeah, like I thought, you opened your mouth before thinking about it. You and everyone else know that Spurs will not finish in the bottom half of the table!

Anonymous said...

yid, enjoy your weekend.we will be watching the f.a cup.who do spurs play in the f.a cup this weekend?
